the long distance runner

While we are still under the sober influence of Saturn in Scorpio's sextile and mutual reception to Pluto in Capricorn, the first New Moon of 2013 has a stellium with five planets and Juno in Capricorn where the energies are concentrated to really start the season.

The Sun.Moon.Mercury conjonction in Capricorn doesn't make aspects other than a loose sextile to the North Node in Scorpio.
Meanwhile Venus, still in sextile with Neptune and Chiron in Piscis, is fast approaching Juno.Pluto in Capricorn and their square to Uranus in Aries and on the other hand Mars in Aquarius is slowly separating from a trine to Jupiter in Gemini and a square to Saturn in Scorpio.

Symbol

By accepting defeat gracefully, a general reveals nobility of character.

Key : The realization that one may grow through defeat as well as, and perhaps more than, through success.  While the preceding symbol referred to the drive toward success in culturally organized collective endeavors, this one presents us with the possibility of turning apparent external defeat into an inner spiritual achievement. We have recently seen how totally vanquished nations (Germany and Japan) have leaped forward and achieved great economic success. Much depends on the quality of the will and the inner integrity of the person.  At this second stage we find what seems to be a paradox, but the spiritual life is always paradoxical. The great sinner can become the most renowned saint, and a medieval Pope a criminal. What matters most always is INNER STRENGTH.

This is a symbol of the immediate opportunities by which the human will develops the real power, and of its underlying and uncompromising loyalty to the long-range ends in view.  A realistic practicality is made effective through a self-disciplined grace of spirit, so that men are won over very often by the enemy they have defeated.  The individual exalts his destiny as he finds its roots established in values accepted by his fellows as well as himself.
The keyword is expediency.
When positive, the degree is a genius for learning from experience and transforming setback into accomplishment, and when negative, irresponsible acceptance of the worst and insensibility to self-inadequacy.

To those who face reality objectively, embracing defeat can turn it into a valuable learning experience which enables strategies to explore other possibilities and becomes the inner strength like that of the long distance runner who goes it alone ... and wins victory over the self.
